Mensi Stiff Continues Her Throws Dominance At Tennessee State Meet; Jordan Ware Runs 10.62/21.28 Double

Arguably the most dominant female prep thrower in Tennessee history, Brentwood Academy’s Mensi Stiff added to her long list of achievements this past week at the Tennessee State TSSAA State Track & Field Championships held May 24-26 at Middle Tennessee State's Dean A. Hayes Stadium, part of Spring Fling XXIX.

Stiff repeated as the Division II-AA winner in the shot put and discus. Her shot put mark of 50-2 broke her own state record. She surpassed the original mark last spring, which was a 37-year-old record set by Angie Barker of Elizabethton. Stiff is US#3. An Ole Miss commit already as a junior, Stiff won the discus with a toss of 155-1. Her personal best this spring of 160 feet ranks in the top 15 nationally. 

Harpeth Hall won the Division II-AA team title with 121 points as Bella Guillamondegui picked up wins in the 800 (2:19.40) and 1,600 (5:14.29). 

Christian Brothers (CBHS) won the boys Division II-AA title with 124 points. 

London Humphreys of Christ Presbyterian Academy won the 100 (11.10), was second in the 200 (22.24), finished first in the long jump (23-2.75) and was third in the high jump (6-1.50).

Class AAA

While she’s headed to the basketball court this fall, Reghan Grimes solidified herself as not only one of the top throwers in the state but the country. The Ravenwood senior, who will play for Tennessee Tech, won the discus title with a throw of 141-9 and shot put (39-1.25). Earlier this month, Grimes broke the state discus record at the Great 8 Invitational with a throw of 161-7, US#10.  

Nolesville’s freshman Claire Stegall won the 3,200 (10:36.16) and 1,600 (4:50.40). 

Brentwood won the team title with 68 points.

In boys action, Memphis Central won the team championship as junior Jordan Ware won the 100 (10.62) and 200 (21.28), while teammate Zavien Wolfe picked up two wins in the field events, claiming the long jump (22-5) and triple jump (46-4.75) titles. 

Levi Streeval of Daniel Boone was a double winner, claiming the 800 (1:55.75) and 1,600 (4:13.93), while teammate Conner Wingfield won the 3,200 (9:20.31). 

Class AA

Senior Kara Wilson won the 100 hurdles (15.62), triple jump (35-3.75) and long jump (17-7.25) to lead Signal Mountain to a Class AA state title. 

It was a close finish for the boys Class AA title as Greeneville edged out Munford, 68-65 points. Greeneville went 1-2 in the 100 and 200 as Jaden Stevenson picked up gold in both events going 10.69 and 21.54, and teammate Mason Gudger was second, running 10.71 and 21.86. Stevenson also won gold in the 400 (48.58) and was second in the long jump  (22-2) to score 38 points for his team. 

East Hamilton’s Jeremiah Flemmons won the 110 hurdles (15.07), triple jump (43-2) and was third in the long jump (21-9.50).

In the field, senior Conner Johnson of Elizabethtown won the shot put (51-11.25) and was second in the discus (134-6). 

Class A

Pearl-Cohn sophomore sprinter Cha’raya Hawkins helped guide her team to a state title as she won the 200 (25.24) and placed second in the 100 (12.61). Pearl-Cohn also won the long jump, 300 hurdles, and claimed the 4x100 and 4x400 relay titles.

The Aloca boys scored 103 points to win the team trophy. Senior Charles Newman won the triple jump for Aloca with a leap of 44-2.50 and placed second in the long jump (22-4). Teammate Jordan Harris won the long jump (22-10.25). 

Pearl-Cohn senior Barion Brown won the 100 (10.83), 200 (21.70) and 400 (49.32) titles. 

Division II-A

The University School of Nashville (USN) girls used a balanced effort to score 83 points and win the Division II-A state title. 

Sophomore sprinter Alima Kassim of USN led the way on the track, winning the 200 (25.37) and placing second in the 100 (12.35). Teammate Holly Schreiber won the pole vault (11-6).

Also on the track, junior ​​Brenay Williams of Goodpasture Christian won the 100 hurdles (14.96), 100 dash (12.34) and finished second in the 200 (25.42).  

The Franklin Road Academy (FRA) boys won the team title with a dominating 187 points. Josiah Jackson won the shot put for FRA with a throw of 53-2, while teammate Joe Crocker was second (48-feet). Crocker was also second in the discus (130-01)

On the track, Battle Ground Academy’s Trace Alexander won the 3,200 (9:49.22), 1,600 (4:27.03) and placed second in the 800 (2:02.38).

Class A: Alcoa boys 103 points; Pearl-Cohn girls 88 points - RESULTS
