Bartlett Boys, Brentwood Girls Win Team Championships

The state meet and the TSSAA's annual Spring Fling returned after a year's absence in Tennessee and Division 1 Large meet took place at Rockvale HS due to capacity limits at Middle Tennessee State.  

Junior Landen  McNair won the 800 (1:53.05) and was second in the 1,600 (4:11.63) to help lead Bartlett to the boys team championship with 69 points. Teammate Kylan Bernard ran a wind-legal US#6 13.89 to win the 110-meter hurdles and he also placed third in the 300 hurdles.  Bartlett was also second in the 4x400 relay and fourth in the 4x100. 

MLK senior Miles Ally won the boys 1,600 in 4:10.73. Lebanon senior Aiden Britt won the 3,200 in 9:03.43.

Senior Christian Langlois of Bearden proved to be the fastest sprinter in the state, claiming the 100 (10.43) and 200 (21.09). 

In the field, Daniel Boone junior Eli Penix won the discus (164-4) and shot put (57-9.50), while Heritage junior Grant Campbell won the high jump (6-8).

Mason Collins of Farragut won the state's one-of-a-kind state meet decathlon title with 6,594 points. 

Brentwood won the girls team championship with 76 points. Senior Hollan Powers led the way for Brentwood with a first-place finish in the pole vault (10-6), was second in the triple jump (37-7) and third in the long jump (18-1). She also won the pentathlon title with 3,591 points. Brentwood also won the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. 

Zoe Arrington of Tennessee High won the 3,200 meters in 10:47.86 and finished a close second behind freshman Jayne Halterman of Independence in the 1,600, 4:56.62 to 4:56.93.

Whisper Thomas from Station Camp won the 100 meters in 12.02 and finished second to Nyla Blackmon from Southwind in the 200. Eriyanna Reed of Hillsboro won the 400 in 55.76.

Just a sophomore, Mensi Stiff has wasted no time making a name for herself as one of the best throwing prospects in state history. The Brentwood Academy thrower set a new state record in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 11.50 inches.

That throw broke long-standing all-time state best 47-1, held since 1984 by Angie Barker of Elizabethton. Stiff is currently US#11 in the event. She also won the discus with a throw of 134-1 and helped lead her team to a fourth-place Division 2 AA  finish with 95.50 points. The Ensworth girls, moving up a division, ran away with the D2 AA team championship with 166 points. Senior Gianna Bullock led the way by winning four golds -- the 300 hurdles (44.64), 100 hurdles (14.72),  high jump (5-2) and long jump (17-9.50).

In the boys D2 AA race, McCallie won the team championship with 164.33 points. Eric Rivers won the triple jump (44-5.50), tied for second in the high jump (6-2) and placed third in the long jump (21-3.75) for McCallie.

The Harding Academy boys and girls swept the Division 2A team titles. The boys were able to repeat from 2019 as junior Jaxon Toney picked up two silvers, in the high jump (6-2) and long jump (20-11.75) and he finished third in the triple jump (41-10.25). Teammate and senior Monterius Williams won the triple jump with a leap of 43-1.50. 

The Alcoa boys denied Pearl Cohn-Business Magnet a repeat Division I Small title as they scored 102.50 points to claim the trophy. Pearl Cohn-Business was runner-up with 98 points.

The Signal Mountain girls Division I Small scored an impressive 126 points to win the team title. Senior Gracen Glover led the way winning the 3,200 (11:59.1) and was runner-up in the 1,600 (5:29.53).
