Brentwood Boys Win 11th Title In 13 Years - Tennessee State Meet Recap 2019

Whitehaven Sprinters Bynum, Jones Rule In D1 Large

The Brentwood High boys dominated the field events at the Tennessee State Track and Field Championships, May 22-24 at Middle Tennessee State, scoring 77 points to defend the Division 1 Large title. 

Junior Skylar Coffey led the way for Brentwood, winning the discus (188-3) and shot put (55-05.25) with state-leading marks.  

Brentwood junior Jett Kinder scored 7,077 points to win the decathlon.

Brentwood's title is its 11th since 2007 and 14th overall.

Whitehaven senior Emmanuel Bynum ran a US#7 time in the 400 meters, clocking 46.60 to break a state record in the event. He completed a sweep of the sprints that also included 10.76 to take the 100 and 21.18 to win the 200.

Knoxville Catholic senior Jake Renfree, the Foot Locker runner-up, won the 800 (1:53.80) and 1,600 (4:14.30). 

Senior Kirstin Jones guided Whitehaven to a Division 1 Large state title, winning the 200 (24.05), 400 (54.99) and finishing second in the  200 (11.90). 

Avery McMullen, a senior at Centennial, won the pentathlon with 3,671 points.

Pearl Cohn-Business Magnet boys won the Small Division 1 title with 74 points, claiming the 4x400 relay title in  3:22.30. 

Sophomore Jayln Rice led East Nashville to a Division 1 Small girls team crown, claiming the triple jump (38-3.50) and long jump (18-2). 

Dresden senior Loral Winn swept the distance events, winning the 800 (2:14.77), 1,600 (5:10.76) and 3,200 (11:43.7).

The Brentwood Academy boys repeated as Division 2 AA champs. Senior Matthew Porter led the way, winning the 3,200 ( 9:42.04)  and placing second in the 1,600 (4:24.46). 

The Ensworth girls scored a whopping 162 points to win the Division 2 AA title. Junior Zoe Williams paced the team, winning the high jump (5-2), triple jump ( 38-4.50) and claiming runner-up honors in the long jump (18-6).

The Harding Academy boys won the Division 2 A title, edging out Christian Academy of Knoxville, 116-109. Harding swept the jumps, winning the triple, long and high, and picked up two points in the pole vault.

Niki Narayani led the Webb School of Knoxville girls team to a Division 2 A state title as she won the 800 (2:22.27), 1,600 (5:13.24) and 3,200 (11:10.01). Teammate Jasmine Jefferson won the 100 (12.39), 400 (58.14) and finished second in the 200 (25.52).
