Fahnbulleh Leads Hopkins To Class AA Boys Title

The competition for the boys Class AA team championship went down to the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay, in the Minnesota state meet at Hamline University.

Hopkins pulled it out with a relay win in 3 minutes, 19.37 seconds and finished with 78 points. The final 10 points pushed Hopkins past Rosemount, which finished with 76 points. 

Senior Joseph Fahnbulleh paced Hopkins as he defended his 200 title (21.21) and was part of a state record 4x200 (1:25.58).

In the field, Rosemount senior Maxwell Otterdahl, the younger brother of North Dakota State star Payton Otterdahl, won the shot put (64-4), a US#17 throw, and claimed the discus (191-4).

In girls AA action, Lauren Peterson led Rosemount to its first team championship. The senior won the 1,600 (4:52.69), 3,200 (10:38.03) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay (3:51.89).

Blaine junior Madison Schmidt tied the meet record in the high jump, clearing 5-10 to defend her title.    

In Class A, the Jordan boys claimed the team title as they won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. The 4x100 team of Jerry Powell, Thomas Dietel, Bryce Sievers, and Marlon Wiley broke a meet record in the prelims of 42.74.

In girls Class 1A, The Bake School defended its team title, as senior Robbie Grace won the 400 (56.31) and long jump title (19-1.50).

On the track, Cotter sophomore Grace Ping won the 1,600 (4:59.07), while sister Lauren Ping, an eighth grader, was second (5:00.57). Grace also claimed the 3,200 title in 10:50.19.

In the wheelchair events, Maple River junior Lilly Stiernagle won the 100 (25.59) and 200 (50.93), both meet records. She also won the shot put and discus competitions.
