Darien  Porter of Bettendorf broke a 17-year-old all-time Iowa best in the 400 meters Saturday during a blustery day at Drake Stadium.

Porter, an Iowa State football recruit, ran 46.99 seconds to win the 4A boys 400 meters crown and he also won the 200 meters in 21.76 as headwinds slowed the sprint finals. Porter also split 46.6 seconds on Bettendorf's winning sprint medley (100-100-200-400), which clocked 1:30.92 for another state record.

A year after hamstring problems limited her action at the Iowa state meet, East Waterloo's Kerris Roberts sped to victories in the Class 4A girls 100-and 200-meter finals. Roberts ran into headwinds on the way to 11.90 (-3.0) in the 100 and 24.74 (-6.1) in the 200.

Mackenzie Michael of Cedar Falls nosed out her own teammate, Auriona Kimbrough, 55.64 to 55.67 to win the girls 400 meters.

In the girls 800, junior Alli Bookin-Nosbich of Ottumwa edged freshman Ashlyn Keeney of Liberty, 2:11:45 to 2:11.57. Michael, who beat both of them at the Drake Relays, finished third.

Keeney won the 1,500 in 4:34.04 and also the 3,000 in 10:04.09.

Ottumwa, with Bookin-Nosbich, won the 4x800 relay (9:13.85). Cedar Falls, with Michael and Kimbrough, won the 4x400 (3:51.51) and the 1,600m SMR (200-200-400-800).

Darby Thomas of Abraham Lincoln, second to Roberts in the 100 and 200, won the 100 hurdles in 14.23 seconds. She also won the long jump with 18-11.

The Waukee girls won their fourth straight 4A team title, which included a victory in the shuttle hurdles relay, Kat Moody's shot put (46-4.75) win and Layanna Green's high jump win (5-5.75).

Tim Sindt from of Ankeny won the boys 1,600 meters in 4:20.95 and the 3,200 meters in 9:28.90.

Bernard Bell Jr of Ames won the 100 in 10.92 seconds.

Joe Schaefer from Johnston ran 1:52.96 to win the 800 meters. He also carried his team to victory in the 1,600m SMR.

The Waukee boys ran a fast 3:14.81 to win the 4x400 relay, holding off a challenge from West Des Moines Valley (3:15.25).

Logan Jones of Lewis Central, a junior, won the 4A boys shot put (60-1.75) and discus (185-10).

Joven Nelson won the 3A boys 400-meter hurdles in 52.02 seconds.

Miracle Ailes of Keokuk jumped 5-7 to win the 3A girls high jump.

Reece Smith won the 2A titles in the 1,600 (4:17.82) and the 3,200 (9:11.33) with the fastest times overall. Noah Fenske of New Hampton Community won the 2A shot put (60-0) and discus (152-10).

In Class 1A, meet officials amended their initial decision after a controversial boys 3,200 meters and awarded co-champions. STORY

Joe Anderson helped George Little Rock with a victory in the 1,600 and second palce in the 800 to teammate Payton Mauldin
