Ripslinger leads Assumption to four-peat in 3A

Highlights

 

- Joy Ripslinger, a junior from Assumption, broke out in a big way in the Class 3A meet. She ran 2:07.51 to win the 800 meters (third all-time in Iowa) and also clocked 4:39.03 to win the 1,500 meters and 10:11.43 to take second in the 3,000. Then she also anchored her team to a victory in the sprint medley relay (4:03.25). For Assumption, it was a four-peat and a state record 126 points.

- Stephanie Jenks of Linn-Mar closed an era of dominance over Iowa distance running at the Class 4A state meet. Jenks won her final state titles, taking the 800 (2:10.56), the 1,500 (4:29.21), and the 3,000 (9:33.94). She won 11 state titles on the track.

- Kiana Phelps of Kinglsey-Pierson/Woodbury dominated the 2A meet by taking the shot put (48-8.75) and the discus (172-1) with huge marks. Her discus win made her the first athlete to win four consecutive titles in a single event in both the Drake Relays and the state meet. Her little brother, sophomore Nicholas, won the shot put by less than an inch with 61-1.75, and the discus and 176-2.

- Isaiah Trousil of Notre Dame sped to 2A victories in the 100 (10.69), the 200 (21.33) and anchored wins in the 4x100 and 4x200. 

- Senior Ryan Schweizer of Dowling Catholic repeated as Class 4A champion in the 800 (1:50.30), the 1,600 (4:14.70) and the 3,200 (9:16.85). He won a fourth title running on the winning sprint medley relay (3:26.26).

- Jalen Rima of Cedar Rapids Prairie tripled in the 4A sprints, taking titles in 10.86 (100), 21.40 (200) and 48.55 (400). He won a fourth title with the 4x100 relay team (42.01).

- Xavior Williams of Notre Dame went 7-0 to win the 2A boys high jump and he also won the long jump with 23-8.25.

- Nathan Hoy of Cedar Falls ran a state-leading time of 52.92 to win the 4A boys 400 hurdles. He also ran on the winning 4x400 relay team (3:16.85).

- Joah Wallace from CR Prairie won the 4A 110 hurdles in 14.06 seconds.

- The Waukee boys led three teams under 7:50 in the 4A 4x800 and ran a winning time of 7:47.08.

- Carly Donahue from Pleasant Valley was a double winner in the 4A hurdles -- running 14.47 to win the 100 hurdles and 1:01.35 to take the 400 hurdles. She was also on the winning 4x400 relay (3:53.22).

- Dianna Slight from Boone, a junior, won the 3A girls 400 meters in 54.73 seconds. She also won the long jump with 17-6.25.

- Sophomore Peyton Wensel of Linn-Mar won the 4A 400 in 55.87 seconds.

- Tristan Wirfs of Mount Vernon//Lisbon won the 3A shot put (60-1.25) and discus (185-9).

- Sydney Laufenberg of Clinton won the 4A discus title with a throw of 153-8.

- Freshman Darby Thomas of Abraham Lincoln jumped 18-7.75 to win the 4A girls long jump.

- Sophomore Keaton Kester from Earlham won the 2A girls 100 meters (12.51) and 200 (25.33).

- Oksana Covey from Des Moines Christian won 2A titles in the 400 (57.19) and the 800 (2:12.62).

- Brothers Matt and Derek Manternach went 1-2 in the 2A boys 800 meters, in 1:52.77 and 1:54.22. Matt also won the 1,600 (4:21.36) in a tight race with C.J. May of Aplington-Parkersburg.

- Aleenah Marcuccci of Northeast swept the 2A girls hurdles, going 14.42 in the 100 hurdles and 1:04.08 in the 400s. She also won the long jump with 18-0.75.

- Sophomore Anna Hostetler of Mid-Prairie won the 2A 1,500 meters in 4:38.96 and also placed third in the 3,000 and seventh in the 800.

- Notre Dame's boys (79 points) and Cascade's girls (50) won the Class 2A team championships.

- Pella won the 3A boys team championship with 62 points.

- In Class 4A, the Cedar Rapids Prairie boys (87 points) and Waukee girls (83) won team titles.

- Cole Moeller of Calamus Wheatland jumped 6-10 to win the 1A high jump.

- Tom Yezek from Northwood-Kensett launched the discus 197-5 to win the 1A title.

- Mitchell Nelsen from Audubon won the 1A boys 110 hurdle in 14.77 seconds. He also led his team to the shuttle hurdles relay crown.

- Katie Maschmann of Montezuma doubled in the 1A girls sprints, taking the 100 (12.64) and the 200 (25.82). She also anchored the winning 4x100 relay.

- Ethan Wyant of Jesup ran 49.56 to win the 1A boys 400 meters.

- Lisbon's boys (52 points) and West Hancock's girls (50) won the Class 1A titles.
